BUILDING A MAGNETIZED ARMY DISPLAY BASE

Picture of Ty Finocchiaro holds the display tray over his head to show how strong the magnets are.
You too can defy gravity!
Nope, there's no Photoshop magic involved in the picture you see to the right. Just a dude confidently holding a 2,000-point army – complete with vehicles, all of which that took many hours to paint – over his head. Why don't the models plunge to their doom? How's this possible?

Five Letters: NdFeB

I'm not too sure what these letters mean other than "really strong magnets" (That's neodymium iron boron. Ed.). Regardless of what they mean, these magnets are what make this picture possible.

You've probably seen display trays like these in Grand Tournaments, Rogue Trader Tourneys, Games Days, White Dwarf, local shops, and the internet. You've also possibly thought to yourself, "Man, those hobbyists are insane." Turns out they're not, they're just exceedingly sly and crafty.

On the following pages, I'll drag you through the surprisingly simple process of building a magnetized display base for your own army in brutal step-by-step detail. Not only are these trays super-cool, but they make transporting your army so easy. There's hardly a need for sketchy figure cases anymore – just drop this sucker on the backseat and go to your next game!

Magnetized displays are an awesome way to showcase your army and make it portable.
