0004 - Pipes [02] http://taersliver.deviantart.com Preparation These images should be printed at 300 DPI. This is set in the image files already, so you should be able to just print them at 100% using most image viewing/editing software. The images should be printed onto white 200 gsm A4 or Letter sized card. Most home printers can handle this thickness of card (check your manual), and it provides sturdy, lasting models. This is a modular set, so the number of times to print each image depends on the number of base parts you want available to work with. Before cutting out on the solid lines, score along the dotted fold lines. Red arrows indicate fold lines that should be scored on the opposite (unprinted) side of the card. Once everything is cut out, do a dry assembly run, and make sure you understand how everything will go together. It's no fun trying to discover how it works while the glue is drying. (optional) After the dry run, before you glue, color the exposed edges of white card to suit the surrounding texture. This can be done with anything from crayon to paint, use whatever works best for you. Component Construction 4" Pipe Sections, Pipe T Section 1 & 2, Plugs: No special considerations needed. Just work through the tabs. Pipe Bend Section: I find it helps to start with the 'a' tab, to hold the basic shape together to begin with, and also help line the whole lot up from the beginning, to better prevent an askew result. Double Pipe Support: Leave attaching the top piece to last, and you can use it to square up the block. Double Pipe Ground Texture: This is intended to be printed onto 200 gsm card, and then glued to another layer of card for a thick stable base. I prefer 400 gsm card for the second layer, but a layer or two of 200 gsm should work. Assembly: Pipe T Section: When Pipe T Section 1 was completed, I found it easiest to attach Pipe T Section 2 to Pipe T Section 1 by lining them up, gluing one tab from Pipe T Section 1 to the inside of Pipe T Section 2, letting it dry, and then gluing a tab on the opposite side in place, making sure the remaining tabs end up inside the Pipe T Section 2 tube. This means they can then easily be taken care of, and the piece shouldn't end up askew - the first two tabs will hold the shape. Glue the Double Pipe Support onto the matching ground piece. Four plugs should be attached closed-face to the centers of the white spaces, ensuring you leave room between them to slide the pipe sections on and off. The completed Pipe Sections are designed to be able to slide over the plugs, to connect the modular elements together. There should be no need to glue the pipe sections to the plugs unless a permanent configuration is desired.
